Oceans
In Oceans, kids will investigate this largest biome and see how environmental threats affect the earth's oceans. Changing climates threaten the plants and animals in the ocean's ecosystems as much as in the terrestrial biomes. Kids will learn about coral reefs, the rainforests of the ocean, and see the connection between increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the bleaching of the reefs, which in turn affects every plant and animal in the ecosystem. Comparing the size of an island of floating plastic and other trash in the middle of the Pacific Ocean to the state of Texas - and how that floating island impacts ocean life - young readers will understand why consuming less plastic is important.
Children's Literature Review—"This is an excellent introduction to the ocean biome for elementary readers and useful for report writing, but will also appeal to non-fiction readers who are interested in the subject as well."
Marla Conn, Educational Consultant —"These books are fabulous examples of informational text. They have interesting content, great picture/text support, and wonderful use of side text and headings. They are grade appropriate and correlate to the classroom curriculum for grades 4–6. "
